NARRATIVE ARCHAEOLOGY FOR THE NEURODIVERGENT SOUL
The story mapping session for neurodivergent women
Resources to help you uncover patterns, themes, and truths that have been obscured by years of adapting to expectations that were never meant for you.
Story Mapping session
This is collaborative detective work where your stories become the map back to your true self. Through careful excavation of your pivotal moments, we uncover the patterns, themes, and truths that have been obscured by years (perhaps decades) of adapting expectations that were never meant for you.
Process
Story Inventory: We identify 5 - 7 defining moments in your life, not just the obvious ones but the subtle turning points that reveal your authentic choices. EXPLORE ROBIN’S >
Pattern Recognition: I help you spot the themes that emerge across your stories - the consistent thread of who you’ve always been, even when you couldn’t see it.
Wisdom Extraction: We uncover what your experiences have been teaching you about your values, strengths, and authentic way of being in the world.
Future Narrative: We explore how these insights inform your next chapter, not as prescription but as recognition of what your stories reveal about your true path.

This isn’t Therapy or Coaching
I’m not here to diagnose, treat, or transform you. Nor do you need to disclose any medical or self-diagnosis. I’m here to help you see what’s been true all along. Most clients find what they need in 1 - 3 sessions as this work is about recognition, not ongoing dependency.
Gentle Homework Example
Story Seed worksheet: Not homework, just some gental prompts to help prepare for the session. EXAMPLE: What’s a decision you made that others questioned but you knew was right?

The Theory Behind Story Mapping
Narrative Identity Theory (Dan McAdams): Our sense of self is fundamentally constructed through the stories we tell about our lives. These aren’t just memories - they’re meaning-making structures that are at our core values, motivations, and identity. McAdams argues that we literally become the stories we tell about ourselves.
Narrative Therapy (Michael White & David Epston): Our Problems aren’t inherent to people - they’re stories that have become dominant. By re-examining life stories, people can identify “unique outcomes” that contradict problem narratives and reveal their authentic strengths and values.
Phenomenological Psychology (Edmund Husserl, Martin Heidegger and Maurice Merleau-Ponty): The idea that lived experience contains wisdom that analytical thinking alone can’t access. Stories preserve the emotional and sensory data that reveals patterns invisible to purely cognitive analysis.
Neurodivergent Masking Theory (Lorna Wing, Tony Attwood, Michelle Mowery & Julia Rood): The concept that neurodivergent individuals develop sophisticated adaptation strategies that can obscure their authentic selves. Story mapping helps identify moments when the authentic self broke through despite masking. It is an evolving body of research primarily developed through autism studies and later expanded to include ADHD, and other neurodivergent conditions. Much of the foundational work has been done by neurodivergent researchers including many whose work is still emerging in academic literature.
The Integration: Story Mapping combines these theories specifically for neurodivergent women who’ve spent decades adapting. It assumes that:
Your authentic self has been consistently present throughout your life.
Your stories contain evidence of this authenticity, even during heavy masking periods.
Pattern recognition can reveal your true decision making processes and values.
You don’t need new transformation - you need to see what’s already there.
Why it works
Stories bypass the analytical mind that’s been trained to “perform correctly.” They access the emotional and intuitive wisdom that guided your authentic choices, even when you couldn’t consciously recognize it. The detective work reveals that what you thought were random life events and actually contain consistent themes of your true self trying to emerge.
