Perhaps you don’t need to become anything: What if it’s about unbecoming everything that’s not really you

Unbecoming

Unbecoming is about removing all that isn’t you so you can become who you were before your identity was snatched by your job, your family, your fear. It’s about nurturing yourself in a way you did as a child. It’s about dismantling societal expectations. Unbecoming is about how you respond when your job, family, or friends try to pull you into a role that does not align with your mental, physical, or spiritual wellbeing, authenticity, and essence. This takes time and carefully and consistently carving out time.

Yes, this is somewhat abstract so here are some steps to begin getting there.

  • Look up and dream about your next chapter - without regret.

  • Honor in a thoughtful and grateful way the chapters that ended in pain.

  • Work on removing fear. You were brave in the past and it all worked out. Reignite that bravery to continue writing your story, but this time, on your terms.

  • Make decisions based on curiosity.

Please never forget how brave it is to continue to show up in a story that looks so different than what you thought it’d be.
